Lionel Messi gives stunning speech in Barcelona’s Joan Gamper final

Lionel Messi vows to bring the Champions League trophy back to Camp Nou after being forced to watch Real Madrid win three years in a row.

The new season is quickly approaching and Barcelona’s first captain, which is now the great Lionel Messi has vowed to Blaugrana supporters the team will do everything possible to bring home the three titles especially the Champions League after their total disaster in the European competition last year.

Before the Joan Gamper friendly kicked off at the Camp Nou, the fans were greeted by all the players, who were introduced onto the field one by one. Then Messi, stole the spotlight, grabbing the microphone to deliver a powerful and emotional speech to the thousands of Barca fans at the stadium.

The Argentine star is not usually known to be well with words as he does all his talking on the pitch but since he earned the captain’s armband, his role within the squad has changed and the footballer showed he is up for the task, delivering a stunning speech, which left the entire Camp Nou in an emotional silence.

First, Messi explained his excitement of becoming the new Barcelona captain, assuring to the fans he thoroughly understands the importance of wearing the armband. He also spoke about his good fortune to have had such great examples from Barça’s previous captains especially highlighting Xavi and Andrés Iniesta.

"“For me it is a great pride to be the captain, I know what it means in this club, and I was lucky enough to have great examples,” the Argentinian said."

And after showing his gratitude to wear the captain band, La Pulga also had some great words for the new signings, welcoming the team’s recent additions: Arthur Melo, Malcom, Clement Lenglet and Arturo Vidal.

"“I think we have a squad to be excited about and I think the new signings that have arrived will help us a lot to become better than we were before.”"

Lastly, Messi got the crowd pumped after vowing his side will bring home the Champions League this year, a title that Ernesto Valverde’s men have not been unable to achieve for quite some time.

But what stood out most from his speech on the fight for the European title, was the footballer’s reference to their painful elimination against Rome.

"“Last year we were very good in La Liga and the Copa del Rey but we were left in the dark with the Champions League. We will do our best to bring this beautiful cup back home at the Camp Nou,” announced a very enthusiastic Messi."

The final touch to his stunning speech was the traditional motto “Visca el Barca i Visca Catalunya!“, which was greeted with loud cheers by the home fans.
