Adrien Rabiot is in demand across Europe

After Barcelona’s initial interest in Adrien Rabiot, Liverpool, Juventus and Milan have all registered interest in signing the 23-year old French defensive midfielder. The race for his signature has heated up, especially with the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

Barça were in a long-drawn negotiation with Paris Saint-Germain over Rabiot, but the French club refused to budge, despite the expiry of the player’s contract next summer. They are reluctant to let him go this summer, and are trying to pressurise him into signing a new contract.

But Rabiot still wants to leave. PSG are in a three-way negotiation with two other clubs at the moment, Juventus and Barça. The presidents of the three European giants met at a hotel in Barcelona, but couldn’t reach a consensus.

Éric Abidal’s latest offer is worth €50 million, but Milan or Liverpool could decide to jump in at any moment. Rabiot has already played 2 games for PSG this season, playing the full 90 minutes against Caen and Guingamp, and scoring in the Ligue 1 season opener.

But the best course of action for Abidal would be to negotiate personal terms with Rabiot, and let his contract run out at the end of the season. After he becomes a free agent, he could sign with Barcelona.

In order to do that, the club needs to sign a pre-contract agreement with Rabiot. Abidal should immediately begin negotiations with Rabiot’s representatives to bring him on a free transfer next summer.
