Barcelona open negotiations over young Brazilian winger Pedrinho
Barcelona are monitoring the progress of Corinthians youngster Pedrinho
Ever since signing Neymar from Santos, Barcelona’s scouting network in Brazil has expanded, led by Andre Cury. The club signed Yerry Mina from Palmeiras and Arthur from Grêmio, and now, are looking at Corinthians winger Pedrinho.
The 20-year old attacking midfielder broke into the Corinthians first-team in 2017 under manager Fábio Carille. He made 20 appearances in his first season at the Arena Corinthians, and followed it up with 29 appearances the next season, winning 3 titles.
Pedrinho is uncapped, both at youth level and at senior level. But that cannot reflect poorly on his ability, especially considering that talents like Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior have hogged the limelight for the Brazil youth teams in recent years.
Pedrinho is a brilliant dribbler, has a lot of pace and has good technical skills. He is a quintessential winger, but can also operate down the middle when required. He gets tackled often, and can draw fouls in dangerous areas. Pedrinho also likes to shoot from distance.

Club scouts have been monitoring his progress for a long time, and Andre Cury has entered into negotiations with Corinthians. He has already enquired about Pedrinho’s availability, and is expected to begin talks with the player’s representatives over a potential transfer soon.
Corinthians have put a price tag of €25 million on Pedrinho, which is slightly unreasonable considering that he is yet to be recognised by national team scouts. But the club’s representatives can always negotiate to reach a consensus over his fee.
The club is expected to maintain its policy for signing players from Brazil, with an agreement in place for the club to activate its option on the player within a fixed time-frame for a certain fee. In this case, this policy will be useful.
With Ousmane Dembélé slowly transitioning to the left and Malcom predominantly starring on the left, Lionel Messi does not have backup on the right. Both Malcom and Dembélé can shift to the right anytime, but Pedrinho would add further depth to the squad.
But there is no emergency, and the club’s representatives in Brazil can take their time to reach an agreement with Corinthians over the signature of Pedrinho. There is competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk, but the club is the first to enter into negotiations.
