Barcelona should look for left wingers instead of right wingers

The squad has a dearth of properly right-footed wingers

Barcelona have three wingers now, Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembélé and Malcom. All of them are naturally left-footed. Dembélé is trying to develop his right foot so that he can play on the left in accordance with the club’s philosophy of wingers who can cut in with their favoured foot.

Currently, Leo Messi fits the bill, and Dembélé is trying to fit the bill. Malcom can back up both of these players, but he should be predominantly starring on the right because of the fact that he is left-footed.

Barcelona technical secretary has launched a search for a winger, and it has led to the shortlisting of 20-year old Brazilian winger Pedrinho, who is being valued at €25 million by Corinthians. But instead of going after right-sided wingers, Abidal should scout some right-footed left wingers.

Club scouts in the Bundesliga have been providing good reports on some players for a long time. Julian Draxler was highly recommended before he decided to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, while Emil Forsberg was linked with a move to a top European club after Leipzig’s breakout season.

Julian Draxler is highly unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain. Ever since Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona, he has been relegated to the bench and now, has fallen below even Ángel Di María in the pecking order. He has also lost his place in Joachim Löw’s first-team.

Undoubtedly, Draxler is looking for a way out of the Parc de Princes. Of course, Nasser al-Khelaifi is reluctant to let go of him, or for that matter, any player. But if Barcelona decide to renew their interest in Draxler, Al-Khelaifi could be forced to let him go.

More from Everything Barca

Julian Draxler is a technically gifted player, and has a lot of potential. He is 25, and could have a long and successful career at a top European club. At Barça, he could even compete with Ousmane Dembélé for a spot in the first-team.

But Éric Abidal will need to negotiate with people who do not have cordial relations with the club. Paris Saint-Germain were already unhappy about Barça’s pursuit of Marco Verratti and Marquinhos, and were further antagonised by the links with Adrien Rabiot.

They are expected to demand a huge fee for Draxler, despite the fact that his market value has decreased considerably in recent times due to his lack of playing time. In this regard, Leipzig attacker Emil Forsberg would be a more viable option.

In his first season in the Bundesliga, the 25-year old Swedish winger scored 8 goals and provided a staggering 19 assists. Although he did well in the Champions League, his second season in the top-flight was marred by a series of injuries, keeping him out for almost 3 months.

But regardless, he made a comeback at the World Cup, scoring once. Forsberg is a player of the highest caliber, and he is an good option. If he can avoid injuries, he could reach new heights at the Camp Nou after guiding Leipzig to the Champions League after getting promotion.

Next. Could Milan star Suso be an option for the right flank?. dark

He would not cost as much as Julian Draxler, or others like Carlos Soler or Suso. Éric Abidal should consider scouting these two players to check their suitability to a move to Barcelona.
