Arthur is yet to complete the transition from Brazil to Europe

Against Girona, Arthur showed why Ernesto Valverde is not considering him for a spot in the first-team. The 23-year old Brazilian playmaker showed some glimpses of his immense passing skills, but was largely out of place in a politically-charged atmosphere in Barcelona.

Arthur possesses a rare quality. The young midfielder has the ability to pass the ball to the nearest teammate without question, and is like club legend Xavi in this regard. But he needs to form an understanding with the rest of the team in order to be effective.

And despite his unique ability, Arthur also needs to pick out teammates in wide areas and other attackers in space up front. He showed some great rapport with Gerard Piqué throughout the game against Girona, and linked up with Arturo Vidal too.

But the passes that were made with attacking intent were mostly inaccurate. Arthur was unafraid to challenge opposition players, but received a yellow card. He was also picked off the ball and the following opportunity had to be cut out by Piqué.

Arthur is yet to fully adapt to the Barça style of play. He often dropped deeper, leaving Sergio Busquets stranded in the middle. He also couldn’t link up with Jordi Alba, which is a prerequisite for a player on the left side of the midfield trio.

The young Brazilian may have done well in pre-season, but a competitive environment in a top European league brings a different atmosphere altogether. He needs to play the full 90 minutes in some Copa del Rey games before being considered for selection again.
