Ernesto Valverde is making a blunder with summer signing Malcom

Barcelona technical secretary Éric Abidal had to work very hard to sign Malcom for the club. His former club Bordeaux already had an agreement with Roma for his transfer, and the Serie A club went as far to confirm the deal, only for Bordeaux to backtrack on their agreement.

Barça swept in and convinced Malcom to move to Catalonia instead of Italy. And within a day of Roma’s announcement of their new marquee signing, Malcom had made up his mind about his future, which belonged in Barcelona.

But despite all the trouble that the club had to go through to get this €41 million deal over the line, Ernesto Valverde has been reluctant to field the 21-year old Brazilian winger. Malcom is yet to make his first start for the club, and has played just 25 minutes in competitive games.

Considering the fact that Malcom is one of the best young wingers in Europe, he should be getting a lot more playing time. Even with his minor fitness problems, he should have at least made a start for the club in the La Liga.

The youngster has a lot to offer to the club. He is pacy, is a brilliant dribbler, a good crosser, a decent passer of the ball and is especially good at taking shots from outside the box. As a substitute, Malcom could make a huge impact. He has just made 2 appearances this season.

Ernesto Valverde is making a very big mistake with Malcom. The 54-year old Basque manager is not recognising Malcom’s immense talent, and it could result in terrible losses for the club, both financially and from a sporting point of view.

Malcom is slowly becoming impatient with Valverde, and may look for a way out of the Camp Nou in January. His agent has confirmed his unhappiness over his lack of playing time. The 21-year old Brazil international has also attracted interest from London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham.

Inter Milan are also interested in bringing him to the San Siro in January. Even though these clubs may be ready to offer up to €50 million for the signature of Malcom, Barcelona should not be motivated by nothing more than money when it comes to transfers.

Ernesto Valverde needs to start giving Malcom some more playing time, just to keep the starlet past January at least.
