Samuel Umtiti in the 16th spot
Last season, Samuel Umtiti firmly established himself as one of the best centre-backs in world football. He produced consistent displays throughout the season alongside veteran Gerard Piqué, and his performances culminated in a marvelous showing at the World Cup.
He was paired up alongside Real Madrid counterpart Raphaël Varane by Didier Deschamps, and the combination worked like a charm as France conceded just 6 goals in 7 games. Umtiti’s ranking in Goal 50 is more or less justified.
Players who rank above him, like Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard and Harry Kane, really deserve it. But there are question marks as to whether the ranking of Diego Godín is justified, considering Umtiti’s position in the rankings.
