Barcelona should not sign any new wingers in January
Barcelona have enough in the attacking department down the flanks
Ever since Neymar left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain in a €222 million world-record deal, the attacking department in the squad looked a little empty. Lionel Messi made Neymar’s absence irrelevant, but Dembélé and Coutinho’s addition couldn’t provide enough depth.
But when Éric Abidal successfully negotiated the signing of Malcom in the summer transfer window, this void was filled. Now, the squad has a lot of depth in attack, with all first-team attackers with more than sufficient cover.

Up front, Luis Suárez has Munir as backup, while Lionel Messi is backed up by Rafinha and Malcom, who can also play on the left wing. The left wing is particularly strong, with Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé being some of the best players in the world.
But despite this, Éric Abidal is looking for wingers. The club has been linked with a move for former academy starlet Dani Olmo of Dinamo Zagreb, who plays on the left flank. That signing is absolutely unnecessary, and would do nothing but hinder Olmo’s development.
The former left-back should stop this search immediately, and look for left-backs for the January transfer window, and centre-backs and centre-forwards for the summer. Jordi Alba does not have any backup, and neither Juan Miranda nor Thomas Vermaelen seems up to the task.
Also, Abidal needs to find a player to replace Vermaelen and succeed Gerard Piqué. Luis Suárez will also need a successor soon. All of these signings are not going to come cheap, so the club needs to focus its attention on negotiating these three priority signings instead of targeting wingers.
