It is clear that André Gomes does not have much to offer to Barcelona

When André Gomes left Valencia to join Barcelona in a €35 million deal, high expectations were placed on his shoulders, especially after a very good campaign with Portugal in the Euros. But the central playmaker crumbled under the pressure, and failed to impress.

Over the next two seasons, the Portugal international went on to make 76 appearances for the club before joining Everton on loan. At Goodison Park, he has rediscovered his best form and it seems like that his style of play is suited to the Premier League.

André Gomes has predominantly played in the defensive midfielder position this season, and has impressed considerably. The 25-year old former Benfica man has shown a very high work rate, and has earned himself a recall to the Portuguese national team.

Everton manager, and Gomes’ compatriot, Marco Silva wants to make this move permanent. The ex-Watford head coach has brought the best out of André Gomes after using Idrissa Gana Gueye for the majority of the early part of the season.

"Silva said, “I think in the right moment we have to do something to achieve one player like André.We have time to do that. We are happy with him, he is enjoying the moment here and I don’t think it is a good moment to talk every week because it’s better they (Barcelona) forget about him a little bit about André!You go there in the right moment. André is enjoying his time but we don’t want to put this pressure of a decision on him. It is early. At the end of the season we will talk to the players and with the clubs and after then we will take the decision or not.”"

There is no option in André Gomes’ loan contract to make his move to Everton permanent. After his loan ends, he is supposed to return to Barcelona. So, the Merseysiders will have to negotiate a transfer for him separately if they wish to sign him at the end of the season.

It is clear that André Gomes can never fit in at Barça, even under Ernesto Valverde. He is not suited to the Barça philosophy, and a move away from the Camp Nou would be the best step for him at this stage of his career, rather than warming the bench.

Barcelona technical secretary Éric Abidal should try to offload him in the summer, possibly to Everton. The Toffees are very interested in signing him permanently, and have the cash to even give the club a profit, which was thought impossible just over a year ago.

Moreover, the club has signed Arthur, which rules out a place in the first-team for Gomes even Ernesto Valverde decides to give him a second chance. He has no future at Barça, and the club is in the best possible position to exploit that financially.
