Paris Saint-Germain have expressed interest in Barcelona target Frenkie de Jong

While it is clear that Paris Saint-Germain do not want to keep Adrien Rabiot till after the end of the season, Barcelona are in an awkward position when it comes to the negotiations with Frenkie de Jong, who is first-choice target ahead of Rabiot.

The negotiations between Veronique Rabiot and Éric Abidal have been successful, but the two parties are yet to formalise the agreement due to the delay by the club. Barça has been in the race for the signature of Frenkie de Jong, who is still the priority.

Of course, Adrien Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, is not happy about this. She has already started talks with other clubs, including Chelsea. But another problem is posed by PSG’s interest in signing Frenkie de Jong.

The Parisians have entered the race very late, after Manchester City cooled their interest in the 21-year old Dutch international. But they have pulled ahead of Barça, and negotiations with Ajax are at a very advanced stage. They are also offering De Jong a very high salary.

Now, Paris Saint-Germain might get to vent its anger against Barcelona for constant poaching of their Brazilian centre-back Marquinhos and earlier interest in Ángel Di María, Thiago Silva, Thomas Meunier and Layvin Kurzawa.

The club is set to lose out on both targets, with PSG emerging the final winner. Barça would be forced to find alternative, and Thomas Tuchel’s men would have an adequate replacement for Adrien Rabiot in Frenkie de Jong, who is less temperamental.
