Barcelona narrow shortlist for striker signing; Carlos Vela removed
Barcelona have decided to pull out of negotiations for Carlos Vela
After compiling a list of of diverse options who could potentially replace Munir, Barcelona have decided to narrow the shortlist to a few major targets. Thankfully, Carlos Vela has been axed. The decision to go after him was very puzzling in the first place.
While the 29-year old Mexico international had plenty of experience in Spain, he has never played in the centre-forward position his entire career. Vela is a natural right winger, and would struggle in order to fit in, regardless of what Hristo Stoichkov thinks.
With Atlético closing in on his signature, Chelsea centre-forward Álvaro Morata is no longer a viable option. While the 26-year old Spaniard could have been a good short-term solution, he would have been more expensive than most of the other targets.

Former Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has also been ruled out as a potential target. After the injury to Tottenham superstar Harry Kane, the experienced marksman will need to fill in till Kane makes a comeback. So, Spurs are expected to hold on to their second-choice forward.
Llorente was not among the best of options anyway due to his skill-set, which doesn’t suit the profile required at the Camp Nou. He had worked with Ernesto Valverde at Athletic, and has a lot of experience in the La Liga. But otherwise, Llorente is a star of the past.
Apart from these three removals, the shortlist remains the same, with Cristhian Stuani and Antonio Sanabria among some other players. But Barcelona should seriously consider awarding a trial to Giuseppe Rossi, who could really make a comeback in Catalonia.
Rossi has been very unreliable throughout his career. But if he can prove his fitness to the Barça physios, it will take no time for him regain some match sharpness, with the exhaustive list of fixtures in the coming months. He deserves an opportunity.
