Krzysztof Piątek has been ruled out of the equation by Barcelona

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that the club is going for two centre-forwards. One for the present, and one for the future. Krzysztof Piątek was deemed as a major option for the future signing, but a move to Catalonia has been ruled out.

Barça have been monitoring his progress after he made a cracking start to the season following his transfer to Genoa last summer. The 23-year old centre-forward has been able to sustain his goalscoring form, heightening interest in him across Europe.

Clubs like Real Madrid were also in the running for Piątek’s signature. But in the end, an unlikely club have managed to sign him. AC Milan entered the race very late, after negotiations with Chelsea for Gonzalo Higuaín required the signing of a replacement.

But the Italian giants managed to reach an agreement with Genoa for the young Poland international, who will be joining Milan in a €35 million deal. The details are to be finalised soon, leaving many suitors disappointed, including Barcelona.

His striker’s instincts and ability to finish clinically is what made him a very exciting prospect for the future. Piątek could have been a good successor to Luis Suárez, with his ability to get in behind and his strength in the air. But now, Barça have to go for alternative options.

There are plenty of good centre-forwards out there, who are young and have a lot of potential. Timo Werner is one of them, with Leipzig set to let him go in the summer if they fail to negotiate a new contract with the former Stuttgart striker.
