Sassuolo confirm Barcelona’s interest in young midfielder Stefano Sensi

Barcelona are interested in another talent from Sassuolo

Kevin-Prince Boateng may not be the only player that Barcelona sign from Sassuolo this year. Sassuolo chairman Giovanni Carnevali has admitted that Barça hold an interest in signing 23-year old Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi, in his statement on Boateng’s transfer.

"Carnevali said, “We could do other operations with Barcelona in the future, it’s our objective. We are on very good terms. They are interested in some of our players and we are interested in some of their youths. We could do many things in the future.It’s all premature today but I am sure there will be many opportunities to develop this sort of partnership we have. Sensi has many admirers in Italy and abroad, let’s see if Barcelona will make an offer.”"

Along with Manuel Lazzari and Krzysztof Piątek, Stefano Sensi has been the breakout star in Serie A. The 23-year old recently capped Italy international returned to Sassuolo at the beginning of the season after a short loan spell with former club Cesena.

Sensi has been a revelation, establishing himself as an important member of the first-team. The young playmaker has made 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and garnering 2 assists to his name. He could be a viable alternative to Frenkie de Jong.

Sensi is very good defensively, and has good interception and blocking skills. So, he is very useful in halting opposition counter-attacks, much like Sergio Busquets. Sensi is also a very good passer of the ball, with 90% pass accuracy, and creates many chances for himself and for his teammates.

He can also shoot accurately from outside the box. Of course, he will need to more focused on the pitch and more discrete with his tackles. Sensi has already picked up 5 yellow cards this season. But he has plenty of room for growth, and become a real gem of a player.

With Frenkie de Jong closer to Paris Saint-Germain, the club will need to find alternatives other than Adrien Rabiot. In that case, Stefano Sensi could become a top target for Barça. The club has already shown interest in Sensi, but could follow up that interest in the summer.

The signing of Stefano Sensi will be relatively inexpensive. His contract runs out in 2020, and Sassuolo will be on the back foot in the summer transfer window. Sensi could be a really good option, but he needs to keep it up till the end of the season.
