Barcelona could offload Jasper Cillessen next summer

In his 27 appearances for Barcelona, Jasper Cillessen has made more than a valid case for a spot in the first-team, with 13 clean sheets. But due to Marc-André ter Stegen as a world-class goalkeeper, it is clear that the Netherlands international will always play second-fiddle.

At €13 million, Cillessen is among the best signings made by Robert Fernández. Although the 29-year old shot-stopper is highly underrated, he is among the best goalkeepers in the world. But he can still resurrect his career as a first-choice goalkeeper.

Juventus are interested in signing Cillessen. They are dissatisfied with their current options, new signing Mattia Perin and former Arsenal goalie Wojciech Szczęsny. The Old Lady are still searching for a successor to club legend Gianluigi Buffon, and Cillessen has emerged as an option.

Barça could offload Jasper Cillessen in the upcoming transfer window. The club would pocket a decent profit. Of course, no club would be willing to activate his €60 million release clause. But Barça could easily double their money with a properly negotiated sale.

The management would not need to worry about a replacement, as Barcelona B goalkeeper Iñaki Peña has been very impressive recently. He is a sweeper keeper, and is naturally very good with his feet. In fact, Peña could be the successor to Marc-André ter Stegen.

He regularly trains with the first-team squad, and a call-up would not take the 19-year old La Masia graduate completely by surprise. If the management decides against Peña, to-be free agents like Guillermo Ochoa, Ciprian Tătăruşanu or Adrián could always be an option.
