Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu would go after Real Madrid players

The concept of players moving between Barcelona and Real Madrid is one that the fans of both clubs hate. So much so that even players who used to play for the other side are reviled, even if it is not a direct transfer. Many players have faced this ignominy.

The last player to join Barça from Real Madrid was Luis Enrique. The current Spain head coach joined Barça on a free transfer in 1996, and spent 8 years at the club. The midfielder even became captain before retiring as a club legend.

Former Real Madrid players Alfonso and Dani García also played for Barça, while Samuel Eto’o was a Real Madrid youth academy graduate. But since Eto’o joined Barça from Real Mallorca, only one transfer between the two clubs has taken place, that of Javier Saviola.

Since the Argentine forward joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2007, the hostility between the two Spanish giants reached an almost all-time high. Pep Guardiola rejuvenated Barça, while Florentino Pérez’s spending spree did not get Los Blancos any success.

Barça and Real Madrid have also competed for various signings, most notably young Brazilian forwards Neymar and Rodrygo. But current club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is not ruling out making a move for a Real Madrid player if the coach demands it.

"Bartomeu said, “If our coaches asked us for a player and they want to leave Madrid, of course we would sign them. But it has not happened since I’m here. There are no non-aggression pacts. Each one tries to make their team more competitive.Isco? For the sake of Real Madrid I would speak with the president of Real Madrid [Florentino Pérez].”"

A potential move for a Real Madrid player, especially one who is so high-profile, would evoke a strong reaction at the Camp Nou. Luís Figo was abused at the Camp Nou when he joined Real Madrid, and Isco with receive the same treatment at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Moreover, Isco is not the player that Barça need right now. The midfield has plenty of depth, and Frenkie de Jong is also joining the club in the summer. The left forward position also has two of the best players in the world, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé.

Also, despite the fact that he mostly warms the bench under Santiago Solari, Real Madrid would demand an exorbitant fee for Isco. The 26-year old Spain international still ranks among the best players in Europe, and is rated highly in the transfer market.

But if Barça want to replace Arturo Vidal sometime in the future, Isco could be an option. But by then, the star would have left Real Madrid in all probability.
