Barcelona set to bring in yet another young Brazilian defender
Barcelona are close to signing 19-year old Vitão from Palmeiras
Despite the last signing from Palmeiras being an absolute failure, Barcelona scouts in Brazil have identified 19-year old Brazilian centre-back Vitão as a target. The club is close to reaching an agreement with Palmeiras over a move in the summer transfer window.
The player and his representatives are in the city to seal the deal. Hopefully, Vitão will turn out to be better than Yerry Mina. The Colombia international was offloaded for a big profit, but he was a bad signing. Mina totally failed to adapt to the Barça style of play.
But unlike Yerry Mina, Vitão is being brought in at an early age. The youngster is expected to move into the squad Barça B, or be loaned out to a La Liga club. The latter is more likely, as the B team is filled with good young centre-backs, including Chumi and summer signing Ronald Araújo.

Although the starlet is yet to receive the call-up to the Palmeiras first-team squad, Vitão has been very prolific on the international. He has made a total of 29 appearances across youth levels, and captains the Brazil U-20 side. He has also won the South American U-17 Championship.
Vitão would be a good addition. If he joins in the summer, he would be the second defender from the Brasileiro to do so. Barça are also signing 20-year old right-back Emerson from Atlético Mineiro in a €12 million deal.
Both players have plenty of potential. They still have a long way to go before they can be considered first-team material. But this time, the Barça scouting network have probably not repeated their mistake.
