Inter Milan offer €35 million for Barcelona playmaker Ivan Rakitić
Barcelona have received an offer of €35 million for Ivan Rakitić
The future of Ivan Rakitić is looking clearer, and it is likely that it lies away from Barcelona. After the club sealed the signing of Frenkie de Jong, he asked for a new contract. But the club rejected his request, which led to interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.
Barça have refused to show faith in Rakitić despite his loyal service over the course of his career at the Camp Nou. Last season, he was the club’s best performer and subsequently reached the World Cup final with Croatia. This season too, the 30-year old midfielder has been consistently good.

But Barça are negotiating Rakitić’s departure. Inter are come in with an offer of €35 million. Although it is lower than Barça’s asking price of €45 million, the club is looking to reach a consensus at a fee of around €40 million, excluding add-ons and variables.
An agreement is expected to be reached soon, with Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio in contact with their counterparts at Barça, Josep Maria Bartomeu and Éric Abidal. But the club should not finalise the deal too early, and wait for PSG’s offer.
The Parisians are ready to offer a much larger fee, in the region of €90 million. That would be an offer that cannot be rejected, unlike Inter’s €35 million bid. Ideally, Ivan Rakitić should remain at the club beyond the upcoming summer transfer window.
But it seems as if Barça have already planned his departure. If he is to be offload, he should go for a fee like €90 million, not €40 million.
