Barcelona withdraw contract offer for Adrien Rabiot
Barcelona have taken their contract offer off the table
Before the beginning of the January transfer window, Adrien Rabiot’s summer move to Barcelona on a free transfer was close to being finalised. Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, was in the Catalan capital to negotiate a contract and an agreement was reached.
But after the club sealed the signing of Frenkie de Jong in January, the entire operation went cold. Negotiations were broken off, and the details of the deal were never ironed out. But the contract offer was still on the table for Rabiot to consider, with a considerable salary and a bid sign-on fee.
But now, Barça have decided to take that offer off the table. The contract offer which had been submitted to Rabiot has been withdrawn by the club. Now, Barça do not require another defensive midfielder after having signed De Jong, and are looking for a replacement for Ivan Rakitić.

Of course, Rabiot can play in central midfield too. The 23-year old France international is a very versatile player, but he has taken too much time to consider Barça’s proposal. His family has gone through several personal problems recently, while he has always had professional problems.
But the young Frenchman had his heart set on a move to Barça. Unfortunately, his mother failed him. After Barça withdrew the contract offer, Rabiot sacked Veronique Rabiot as his agent and appointed a professional. If he is to move to the Camp Nou, he needs to approach Barça himself.
Rabiot has several offers from the Premier League and the Serie A, but an agreement is far from being reached. The young playmaker will now receive a smaller salary, and sign-on fee if he does decide to chase a move to Barça.
