Barcelona have been scouting 19-year old midfielder Alberto Soro

Alberto Soro is emerging as one of the best young talents in Spain, with his performances for Real Zaragoza this season. He has attracted interest from Europe’s elite, including Real Madrid and Manchester City. Now, Barcelona have joined the race for his signature.

The left-footed 19-year old playmaker spent 9 years in the Real Zaragoza youth academy before a short stint with Deportivo Aragón, following which he was called up to the first-team squad by Imanol Idiákez. Soro has been very good this season.

The youngster has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 2 goals and providing a single assist. Soro was even awarded a new 4-year contract last season for his performances, which has a release clause of €9 million.

Soro’s agent Pere Guardiola, has a good relationship with both Barça and Real Madrid, with some high-profile clients at both clubs. He represents Luis Suárez and Sergi Samper, and La Masia graduate Sergio Gómez, along with former City players Brahim Díaz and Pablo Maffeo.

The transfer battle is going to be very interesting, with all suitors likely to activate Soro’s release clause. It will be Éric Abidal’s responsibility to convince Soro to join Barça, with assistant technical secretary Ramón Planes having scouted the starlet for a long time.

There are also other suitors for Soro, including Eintracht Frankfurt, Atlético Madrid and Espanyol. Barça will need to beat all these clubs to the signing of the 19-year old Real Zaragoza youth academy graduate, and Spain U-18 international.

If Soro does join Barça, it is likely that he will be loaned out to another La Liga club to get some minutes under his belt. The midfield is looking settled, but Ivan Rakitić will eventually require a successor and Soro could turn out to be that player.

His versatility could aid the squad, as well as his guile in front of goal and in attack. Overall, Alberto Soro is a very good target. But Barça will struggle to sign him.
