Barcelona: Sergi Roberto’s resurgence could spell trouble for Nélson Semedo
Nélson Semedo could soon drop out of the Barcelona first-team soon
Sergi Roberto seemed to be slowing down with recent performances, but has returned to form with a resolute performance in the 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Clásico. But while it could be good for Roberto’s confidence, it could spell trouble for Nélson Semedo.
The 25-year old Portuguese right-back had started to take advantage of Roberto’s dip in form with some consistent displays. He started a string of good displays by scoring his first ever goal for Barça in the 2-0 victory against Girona in the La Liga.
But he has slowed down in recent times, proving ineffective in the goalless draws against Athletic Bilbao and Lyon. Now, Sergi Roberto looks set to reclaim his spot in the first-team. Semedo has grown significantly, but it may not be good enough for a permanent first-team spot.

If Sergi Roberto does reclaim his old first-team spot, it will be a sign for Nélson Semedo that he cannot be an integral first-team member. The speedster has been at its best in the last few weeks, but was still overlooked for Sergi Roberto in the all-important Clásicos.
Of course, Semedo will get plenty of playing time regardless of whether Roberto occupies the first-team right-back spot. But now, it may seem to the former Benfica player that he does not have a long-term future as a success at Barça.
Therefore, he could be on his way out of Barça in the upcoming summer transfer window, especially with the arrival of Emerson. The Brazilian right-back is going to be competition for Semedo.
