Barcelona planning double defensive swoop on Ajax
Barcelona are going after both Matthijs de Ligt and Nicolás Tagliafico
After completing the signing of Frenkie de Jong for €75 million, Barcelona are now going after Ajax defenders Nicolás Tagliafico and Matthijs de Ligt. Representatives of both players have been in contact with the club regularly, and they could join in the summer.
Barça have been leading the race for the signature of De Ligt, but face a huge threat from Juventus. The Old Lady are also very interested in the Ajax captain, and Mino Raiola has also been in touch with them. The club have to seal the deal soon.
The Blaugrana only recently expressed interest in Tagliafico, after his agent offered him to the club. Atlético are currently leading the pack, but Barça want a left-back this summer, due to the lack of a proper backup for Jordi Alba in the squad.

If Barça can pull off both these signings, it is going to secure the future of the defence. But Éric Abidal needs to beat the likes of Juventus to the signing of De Ligt, and Atlético to the signing of Tagliafico. That will be a tall task, but will be worth it.
Barça have not signed so many players from a single club in a long time. The total recruitment cost for players from Ajax could be as much as €170 million. Tagliafico and De Ligt are going to solve a lot of problems for Barça, along with De Jong.
There are always cheaper alternatives, but Barça are expected to go after the Ajax duo.
