Tottenham reignite interest in Barcelona loanee André Gomes
Barcelona have a new suitor for André Gomes in Tottenham
André Gomes joined Everton on a season-long loan with a nominal fee after being frozen out of the squad by Ernesto Valverde. But Goodison Park may not be the permanent destination for the Barcelona playmaker, as Tottenham have reignited interest in him.
The Portugal international has impressed Everton boss Marco Silva with his performances this season, as Everton look set for a mid-table finish in the Premier League. But Silva is not the only one impressed with André Gomes.
In Robert Fernández’s last summer in charge of transfers, the ex-Culé had attempted to negotiate loan moves with Tottenham and West Ham. But the two parties failed to reach a consensus on a future fee once Gomes’ loan ended.

But now, Spurs are back with interest in the Portuguese playmaker. Chairman Daniel Levy will need to strengthen his squad after failing to make any signings last summer. The midfield needs significant additions after the recent departure of experienced campaigner Mousa Dembélé.
Barça want to recoup the amount paid to Valencia for the signature of André Gomes, which is around €35 million. Spurs’ Steve Hitchen scouted the midfielder in the Merseyside Derby, and identified him as a potential target in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Since there is no possibility of André Gomes returning to the squad, Barça may as well spark a bidding war for the in-demand playmaker in order to prevent taking a loss. Notwithstanding, André Gomes will certainly be part of Éric Abidal’s plan to cut the flab.
