Barcelona mainstays in Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez are unhappy with the way the club is hyping Antoine Griezmann’s probable transfer to the Camp Nou.

Antoine Griezmann informed Atletico Madrid that he would be leaving the club at the end of this season. Currently having a contract with a release clause of 200 million euros, that sum is set to decrease to 120 million euros following July 1. In today’s inflated market, it is a reasonable transfer fee for a player of his calibre. Several European giants including Barcelona are interested in signing the France international.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that they are not in the running for Antoine Griezmann via their respective bosses Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel. Therefore, the Catalans’ only competitors in the race to Griezmann are Juventus who are interested in the forward on Cristiano Ronaldo’s recommendation and Bayern Munich who will undergo a squad revamp during this summer’s transfer window.

As reported by Diario GOL, Barcelona are now in the driving seat in their quest to sign the 28-year-old. The Blaugrana officers believe that Antoine Griezmann can replace Luis Suarez in the future and he also has the capability to fill into Lionel Messi’s boots as they plan for life after the Argentina international- who is inarguably the greatest player in their history. Thus, Josep Maria Bartomeu is open to the prospect of paying 120 million euros for the forward.

However, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez are the two players against the deal. The Barcelona duo who has been amongst the club’s top players this season only behind Lionel Messi and Marc Andre Ter Stegen is not happy with the wage that Griezmann will be receiving at the Camp Nou. The World Cup winner is reportedly set to earn 25 million euros, four million euros in excess of what he earned at Atletico Madrid which the defender and striker want an answer for.

Pique and Suarez rightly believe that Antoine Griezmann is not good enough to receive that high a wage and more so given that he will be a new entrant into the team and would already be the third highest paid player in the squad. Having said that, everyone in the Camp Nou is still embarrassed at how the former Real Sociedad rejected them last summer and is behaving dramatically with Atletico Madrid this time out.
