Valencia marksman emerges as alternative to Griezmann for Barcelona
Barcelona are considering alternatives to Antoine Griezmann
With the board of directors split regarding the signing of Antoine Griezmann, Barcelona are considering a host of players who can succeed Luis Suárez in the first-team. One of the names is long-time target Rodrigo Moreno of Valencia.
Rodrigo has emerged as one of the best finishers in Spain under Marcelino, also breaking into the Spain first-team. In the last 2 seasons, the 28-year old Brazil-born striker has scored 34 goals and provided 17 assists in 95 appearances in all competitions.
He has been a Barça target since last season. But now, the club could amp up its efforts to sign Rodrigo due to the consistency he has shown and his record in the league. But there’s a caveat in the form of the age of the Spaniard.

An alternative to Antoine Griezmann should ideally be younger than him, but Rodrigo and Griezmann are of the same age. Thus, neither can be a successor to Suárez in the long run. So, it is not sensible to pay a huge amount to sign a player who will only be a stop-gap solution.
Rodrigo is a fine player, and his signing would mean the addition of a top-class Spain international after a long time. But Barça need to look for long-term successor to Suárez, someone like Timo Werner or even Krzysztof Piątek.
Only if Barça manage to negotiate a reasonable fee will the signing of Rodrigo make any sense. On the other hand, Antoine Griezmann still remains an illogical signing.
