As surprising as it may seem, Valverde has a point to prove in the coming season after barely holding on to his job, following a disastrous semi-final against Liverpool in the UCL and an equally disappointing (if not more) final against Valencia in the Spanish Super Cup. What is to be highlighted is that the Blaugrana was highly tipped to win both the contests.
Both, Messi and Suarez had a fruitful season having shared a combined total of 64 goals and 22 assists between them. Even though Messi’s form hasn’t waned away, it is clear that the process of finding a suitable replacement for Suarez has began at the Camp Nou. Suarez is 33 at the moment and does not have much years of football left in him. It seems as if though they want to bring in Rashford to get him acclimatized to supplementing Suarez and Messi and playing a key role in the position of the right winger, something that Coutinho hasn’t been able to achieve in his stint with Barcelona so far.
In all likelihood, the funds will be generated following the sales of players such as Semedo and Coutinho who are free to leave, should an appropriate sum arrive.
In the recent past there have been numerous speculations surrounding a few players and their future at The Nou. For instance, Coutinho is still rumoured to leave the Spanish giants as he still hasn’t set in and hasn’t quite hit the ground running in his stint with Barça so far. So much so, he hasn’t been able to find a regular spot in the starting XI.
Barcelona are well aware of the fact that Rashford would demand a fee in the range of £100 million should the talks move ahead but they are positive of getting it down, giving the good relationship between Ed Woodward and Josep Maria Bartomeu
coupled with his desire to leave the Old Trafford.
With the rumoured arrival of Griezmann at The Nou catching some heat, the speculations surrounding Rashford at Barcelona only add to the suspense of the major rebuilding job supervised by Valverde himself. Having already captured the services of the Dutch midfielder in Frenkie de Jong, the signing of Rashford will only make their star-studded attack a bit more potent.
Do you think Marcus Rashford would be able to succeed at Barcelona in filling Suarez’s boots?
