Why the Barcelona-Valencia mega deal is a potential masterstroke
Barcelona and Valencia will elevate their working relationship this summer
Since the high-profile move of David Villa, Barcelona and Valencia have completed 6 deals. But other than Jordi Alba, all players moving to Barça have flopped. As a result, it will be Valencia who try to bring in players this time around, with one player moving in the other direction.
Valencia are very interested in signing three fringe Barça players, Denis Suárez, Rafinha and Jasper Cillessen. All three are looking for a way out of the Camp Nou, and a move to Los Che would suit all their careers. In exchange, Valencia are offering Brazilian goalkeeper Neto.
If this mega deal involving 4 players is carried out successfully, it would be a masterstroke on the part of Éric Abidal. Barça would get rid of two players who could potentially clog the midfield this season, while also getting good remuneration for the wantaway Cillessen.
Valencia have offered a €15 million fee for Rafinha, with the variables ranging from €6 million to €15 million based on his fitness. This is probably the best deal Barça can get for Rafinha, whose market value has dropped significantly due to the persistence of his injuries.

The Aragonese club are very close to signing Denis Suárez. Head coach Marcelino has specifically asked for the 25-year old Spanish playmaker to be signed as he worked well with him when both were at Villarreal. Barça should be more than happy to ship him off.
Denis Suárez’s reunion with mentor Unai Emery has been very disappointing, as his loan spell at Arsenal has failed completely due to injuries. This has made him a very unexciting prospect for potential suitors, and a move to Valencia would also suit him best.
As for Jasper Cillessen, there is widespread interest in securing his signature. Benfica and Manchester United are vying to sign the 30-year old Dutch shot-stopper, but Valencia are the only club which can assure him of a place in the first-team.
This is because they are offering their present starting goalkeeper Neto to Barça. This makes Los Che a very attractive destination for Cillessen, while Barça also get a temporary backup to Marc-André ter Stegen while grooming La Masia graduate Iñaki Peña.
This entire transaction would be hugely beneficial for Barcelona as it would cut most of the flab in the squad at effectively no cost. There is always a risk to offloading players to league rivals, but the benefits outweigh the risks here.
