Three of Barcelona’s most important and senior players have felt that one of the club’s most highly-rated player has not thought well enough about it.

Life came fast at Barcelona centre back Samuel Umtiti. The France international was one of the world’s best central defenders in the 2017/18 season and indispensable alongside Gerard Pique at the heart of the backline. Umtiti was integral as the Catalans won the domestic double in Ernesto Valverde’s first season as manager.

Subsequently in the summer, Umtiti would go on to lift the prestigious FIFA World Cup with France, again playing a pivotal role in Didier Deschamps’ setup. The former Lyon defender even went on to score the winner against Belgium in the semi-final success during the tournament, but the 2018/19 season had unpleasant things in store for him.

A few months after the season got underway, Samuel Umtiti picked up an injury that kept him out for over half of the season. The 25 year old opted to undergo natural rehab and refused surgery, a measure that is seen costly by the club as well as its mainstays Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique because the medical procedure would’ve helped in quicker recovery.

Diario GOL reports that Messi, Suarez and Pique are livid that the Frenchman did not bother about the club’s situation and were also unhappy previously when he previously used Real Madrid’s interest in him as bait to ask for a payment appraisal to nine million euros per annum. Hence, they want him to be sold and that’s what the Barcelona board thinks should be done.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are the two teams interested in his services. The Old Lady’s veteran defenders in Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are old, so Matthijs de Ligt’s signing could be complimented with Umtiti so as to ensure a pairing for the future. Meanwhile, PSG lost out on de Ligt and could sign Umtiti, who may also be involved in a deal for Neymar.
