Barcelona: Philippe Coutinho sets sensational 2018/19 European record

With the 2018-19 season having reached it’s end, we look at a few stats of this season with Barcelona superstar Philippe Coutinho doing well in one field.

As the summer’s International tournaments have come to a close, the 2018-19 season has finally come to an end and Barcelona was one of the standout clubs despite collapsing horribly in the last month of the campaign. Every season has its own stats and needless to say, a faint reflection of the growing quality of football that we continue to witness every now and then.

MARCA reports that Philippe Coutinho, the Barcelona winger created a record of his own of having played the most number of matches this season (70) with 54 of them coming with Barcelona (34 in LaLiga Santander, twelve in Champions League, seven in Copa Del Rey and one in Supercopa de Espana) and scoring 11 goals in the process for the Blaugranes.
Coutinho featured 16 times in the Brazil shirt and ended up scoring 5 times.
Ajax’s Daley Blind, Eden Hazard and Quincy Promes fineshed second and joint third-highest respectively (67 & 66 respectively). Matthijs de Ligt (65) and Ruben Dias (65) occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Among the most minutes spent this season, Callum McGregor (5,894 minutes), Daley Blind (5819 minutes), Ruben Dias (5790 minutes),  andAllison Becker (5760 minutes) occupying the top 5 positions respectively.
Looking at the top 5 goal scorers of the 2018-19 season, we have Lionel Messi (36), Kylian Mbappe (33), Fabio Quagliarella (26), Duván Zapata (23) and Mbaye Digane (30) in the top 5.

As we already established before, all these stats are just a faint reflection of the quality of football we have witnessed but the players involved can certainly be proud of their efforts regardless of the results. However, everything has to come to an end and so has the season. Having said this, one can be very sure of a cracker of a 2019-20 season.
