Barça’s first choice striker and their highest preseason goal scorer in Luis Suarez has injured his right calf, as reported by Barça.

Tests carried out on Saturday morning showed a bit of muscle damage in the right calf and the approximate loss of time due to the injury is estimated at 10-18 days. Suarez was subbed on the 37th minute after sustaining the injury and midfielder, Rafinha took his place and even managed to find the crossbar on one occasion. Athletic Bilbao keeper Unai Simòn diverted the effort to the woodwork.

The injury comes as a big blow the blaugranes as they have had the worst possible start, following a humbling loss against Athletic Bilbao in their league opener. This defeat also marks the first such instance in over a decade where Barça have lost their opening game. All their previous opening games have either resulted in a victory or a draw for them. An injured Suarez is likely to miss the game against Osasuna as well, apart from the game against Real Betis on the 26th of this month.

The fans were not at all impressed with their team’s show in the opening game and they continue to lash out on Valverde, ever since the CL debacle and the Copa Del Rey final against Valencia in which the Blaugranes suffered a 2-1 defeat, ending their falsely ambitious campaign.

While Messi is expected to make a return in the next match, we could see Griezmann taking over the duties of the striker and Dembele playing in the left flank. However, Barça will look to turn the tables soon and give their fans something to cheer for.
