Barcelona set to send two of its youngsters away on loan in search of first team football.

All the attention at the moment is geared toward Neymar and whether the Brazilian will or will not come back to Barcelona. But the club are also looking toward the future and making sure that some of their higher-touted prospects are ready to make the next jump to the senior team.

Similar to the first team, Barça B, who play in Spain’s Segunda B division, also need to move players on from their squad. Either because some players are aging out, younger players are coming up the ranks, or some are too good for what is essentially the third division, they need to offload some of these players.

Two of those players who are too good for the B team and could do with a move somewhere else are Oriol Busquets and Juan Miranda and apparently, they’re going to do just that.

According to Diario Sport, Oriol Busquets is very close to joining Dutch side, FC Twente on loan. It is a one-year loan without an option to buy. Barcelona will also be paying Busquets’ wages. Sport also claim that he had offers from Udinese as well as Utrecht but opted for Twente.

On the other side, Juan Miranda is set for a loan to German side, Schalke 04. According to Diario AS, the two sides are close to completing a two-year loan for the Spanish left-back. Olympique Marseille where once thought to be the front-runner to acquire Miranda but the French club wanted an option to buy which Barcelona did now want.

The club still have faith in Miranda and the player impressed during his time with Spain in the U19 tournament.

Both these moves are an effort for Miranda and Busquets to get first team minutes at clubs they believe can help with their development. Miranda was not going to get much playing time with the Barça first team with Jordi Alba and the newly signed Junior Firpo at left-back. The same goes for Busquets as there are too many midfielder already on the first team.

The danger here for the Catalan team is loaning out their youngsters has not proved successful in the past. The classic case is Sergi Samper who was loaned out to multiple teams but they were teams that did not play like Barcelona or were fighting relegation. The risk is their development stalls and return no better than when they left. Only once they return will they know if the loans were successful.
