Barcelona B forward Abel Ruiz has been attracting interest from Sevilla

After leading the Juvenil A side to the UEFA Youth League title, Abel Ruiz was expected to deliver for Barcelona B last season. But the 19-year old centre-forward failed, scoring just 3 goals and providing 1 assist in 21 appearances in the Segunda División B.

It could be attributed to his fitness problems, as he was injured for long stretches. But he failed to live up to his reputation as a ‘goal-machine’, having found the back of the net 7 times in 18 appearances for the Spain U-19 national team.

More from Everything Barca

Ruiz has been decent in pre-season, even though he failed to score. But he is unlikely to stay at Barça for much longer, having informed the management of his desire to move to a club in the top-flight. Apparently, he believes that he is too good for the third-division.

Fortunately, Barça could have found a suitor for the starlet already. Three-time Europa League winners Sevilla are very interested in signing Abel Ruiz. They are looking for a replacement for Wissam Ben Yedder, who has joined AS Monaco.

The Nervionsenses have identified Ruiz as a target, but want to sign the youngster on loan with an option to make the move permanent. But Barça see Ruiz as part of the club’s long-term project involving La Masia, and are unlikely to let him go on a permanent basis.

Barça need neither Emre Can nor Ivan Rakitić. dark. Next

But Barça can work that out, perhaps with a buy-back clause. If negotiations are successful, a highly talented player can get an opportunity to finally realise his potential at a club with a reputation for the getting the best out of youngsters.
