Manchester United are looking to add potion into their roster and will turn to Barcelona for help during the winter or summer’s transfer windows.

Barcelona’s midfield is currently in a crammed situation following the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax Amsterdam. The Netherlands international has been amazing for the Catalans and has shown no signs of slowing down, thus relegating his Croatian colleague Ivan Rakitic to the bench. Rakitic was benched for Barca’s all-important match last week against Inter Milan and that was certainly something which the player did not like.

Arthur Melo has also been simply stunning for Ernesto Valverde’s side and this season he has been delivering something that was missing last year- goals. The Brazilian youngster has scored twice in La Liga Santander this season against Osasuna and Villarreal, so his place in the starting eleven seems to have been cemented as well courtesy of good performances.

Ivan Rakitic has already said that he will not be happy with a fringe role and now that he is towards the end of his career, the former Sevilla man needs to play more often. In an interview, Rakitic mentioned:

"“I don’t know what will come now. It’s tough because I want to play and not just be part of the team. I will do everything possible to change my situation. I have two years left on my deal and there’s no better place to play than Barcelona, the best club in the world, but I need to play and not just enjoy walks around the city and the beach. I want to thank the fans for the affection they showed me this weekend, but if nothing changed, we will have to sit down and talk about my situation again.”"

The Croatian midfielder was the subject of interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus earlier on in the summer but nothing really materialized in favour of him. Earlier on, Paris Saint-Germain had also offered in excess of 50 million euros for Rakitic, but Barca were blunt enough in rejecting the offer from the Ligue 1 giants. Manchester United are now interested in pursuing a move for the World Cup runner-up, as per Fox Sports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be given time by the Red Devils despite a horrible start to the season, but with Manchester United not matching Paul Pogba’s ambitions or wage demands, the Frenchman could be heading to Spain with Real Madrid waiting in the wings and Rakitic might be considered a replacement to Pogba at the Old Trafford, though he would only be for a short-term.

Do you think Ivan Rakitic will be able to help Manchester United’s woes?
