Frequent injuries has impacted Umtiti’s position in the club seriously with Compatriot Clement being preferred over him to start the proceedings with Pique. With the Euro 2020 fast approaching, it is clear that the 25 year-old does not want to miss out on the opportunity to represent his country. Having said this, Umtiti asked Valverde for some consistent game time once he is back from his foot injury to which Valverde has apparently, disagreed.
This disagreement has caused Samuel to seek a move away from the club from the upcoming transfer window in Jan 2020 as he looks to fulfill his objective of starting for France in the Euro 2020. The defender joined Barça from Olympique Lyon in a deal worth £25 million and has gone on to make 98 appearances for the Blaugranes till date, winning two La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cup trophies.
While there is some cold tension between Valverde and Umtiti, it must be resolved very quickly for the betterment of the club as Samuel is a valuable asset at the back and with his pace, he could be a serious threat to the opposition as well. With so much experience of representing Barça at many levels, he should start the game once he is back as after a shaky start, it is the experience of the squad that can put their campaign back on track.
