Samuel Umtiti joined Barcelona back in 2016 and he became an instant hit. However, in the last year and a half, the defender has been battling constant knee injuries which has set him back.

As per Sport the defender has revealed that he’d like to finish his playing career at Barcelona but has recognised that he needs to do something special in order to achieve that.

A foot injury has set the defender even behind this season. He is now behind Gerrad Pique and Clement Langlet. It is fair to say the Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order and is no longer an immediate selection for Valverde.

Umtiti has recognised the fact that he needs to play a lot more than he currently is, and he needs to win titles not necessarily at Barcelona. He has understood the fact that he needs to be consistent with his on-field appearances.

While Umtiti is fit again, it is highly unlikely that he will be starting the game against either of Athletico Madrid or RCD Mallorca. The 26 year-old is reportedly being chased down by some big clubs such as Manchester United. Hence a move away from the club is on the table for the defender.

Since he is no longer unfit, Barcelona shouldn’t rush him back on to the field but considering the fact that Umtiti has been a major asset for the club over the past few years, he does deserve another chance to prove himself before Barca decide to let him go. Valverde should look to have him involved in the mix as soon as possible.
