Barcelona will be looking to overhaul their defence during the next year and have located two very good players who would benefit their ambitions.

Barcelona sit on top of La Liga and their group in the Champions League, but their performances have been far from convincing especially on the domestic front. Ernesto Valverde’s side has been lacklustre in the defensive as well as offensive departments, so there needs to be an overhaul in spite of all the money that has been spent.

More from Everything Barca

While the state of the front line is not too bad, the defence needs to be refurbished as it can collapse anytime by the looks of it and Barca would’ve already been worse of had it not been for Marc Andre Ter-Stegen. The Catalans are now planning to have two defensive reinforcements during the next year’s summer transfer window.

Samuel Umtiti looks set to leave the club during 2020 and as Gerard Pique is getting old as well, the Blaugrana have identified Fiorentina central defender Nikola Milenkovic as their ideal target to complement the Spaniard and Clement Lenglet, as per Daily Mail. The Serbian is growing into a hot property across Europe and was also on Manchester United’s radar.

Fiorentina have conceded to the fact that they would not be able to hold onto the 22 year old superstar for longer amid interest from top clubs and Barcelona in particular. They will be ready to let go of Milenkovic, but will certainly demand a hefty price which Barca, by the looks of it, would be happy to pay for a central defender.

Milenkovic’s signing would ensure security in the heart of defence for the next few years, but Barca are also looking to strengthen their right back position which has not been properly covered ever since Dani Alves’ departure, with the likes of Sergi Roberto, Aleix Vidal and Nelson Semedo having their own periodic struggles.

Sports Mole has claimed that Bayern Munich full back Joshua Kimmich is being weighed up by Ernesto Valverde’s side for a potential transfer. Barcelona are surely keen on signing him since the last few months, but Bayern will be resistant in selling due to Kimmich being a quality player and a deserved heir to Phillip Lahm at the Allianz Arena.

The two players will surely help Barcelona out tremendously well, but before signing them, they must make sure that Nelson Semedo and Samuel Umtiti are sold off in order to ignore any chances of an oversized squad and payment of unnecessary wages. Their net investment on the two targets could go up to a 100 million euros.
