Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu speaks about Lionel Messi and Ernesto Valverde in a special program celebrating the club’s 120 years.

In the segment, Bartomeu opens up about Messi’s future and that he is afraid of the inevitable day the club legend departs from the club.

"“I am worried about the day Messi goes. I would like to sign another contract yet.” Source CCMA"

The club’s president knows that the Argentine has many more years left, a fact recently stated by teammate Luis Suarez, and is also willing to offer the playmaker countless contracts until the day he retires. Bartomeu also insists that Leo is committed to the club and will remain until he hangs his boots from the sport.

"“Messi still has a lot of time in front of us, we’ve talked many times. He has no problem following Barça. I have no doubt that he He will play here until he retires, it is a commitment from him. Therefore, I have no doubt that he will finish here and end when he wants because Leo, to be the best player in history, will say “unemployment” one day, and Meanwhile, keep playing and we will sign as many contracts as you want.”"

Now coming to the topic of Ernesto Valverde, the club have actively tried to find a perfect replacement for Legendary manager, Pep Guardiola, since his departure in 2013. Valverde was backed at the beginning of the year by the club’s president as well as the players to continue with Barcelona this season (Marca) but after the Manager failed to fix the same mistakes, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Spanish Champions replace the coach at the end of the current season.

Even with Barcelona sitting on the top of the La Liga table and Champions League group, it’s evident that the squad is struggling to find a sense of stability and consistency. There is a lack of Barca identity in Valverde’s version of the squad, as his tactics seem to be hoping for Messi to save the day, time and time again.

The report from CCMA shows that Bartomeu could possibly be hinting that this could be Ernesto’s last season in the Nou Camp,

"“Here every year the option is to win everything. There is no option: either you win everything or The season is not good. He has a contract until the year 21, but next spring there is the option that club or he decides not to follow, an exit clause.”"

The entire interview will be broadcast this Saturday from 9.30 in “El Suplement” of Catalunya Ràdio.

It remains to be seen if Valverde remains with the club at the end of the season with many managers being linked with the Catalonian giants.
