Barcelona are looking to bring defensive reinforcement in the summer of 2020 and these 10 defenders can make the difference for the Catalan giants.

Barcelona are in desperate need of a defensive overhaul, with Gerard Pique at 32 years of age moving towards the twilight of his career. The Spaniard continues to play the main centre-back role for the club since the retirement of ex-captain Carles Puyol.

The defender will be celebrating his 33rd birthday on 2nd February next year getting him ever closer to the eminent end of his career but continues to be a crucial player for Blaugrana, having signed a contract extension in 2018 that will see him in a Barca shirt until 2022.

There is no doubt that Umtiti was regarded as one of the best defenders in world football but since his reoccurring knee injury, the French international has looked like a shadow of his former self. Club and country teammate Clement Lenglet has established himself alongside aging Gerrard Pique as the starting Centre-back for the club. Don Balon claims that this has convinced the French international to find his time elsewhere and the defender has opened up to a move away from Spain in order to secure first-team football.

With Umtiti’s likely departure, the squad will be left with only two reliable centre-back, an aging Pique alongside Frenchman Lenglet to hold the Barca defense. Meanwhile, in the right-back, Valverde struggles with the choice between Sergio Roberto and Nélson Semedo. Both the Spaniard and the Portuguese have had their ups and downs with the club, with the former hailed an unsung hero in the Club’s recent victory over Dortmund and Atletico.
