Pep Guardiola claims “Manchester City might not be able to compete with top teams” amidst Barcelona return rumors as Bartomeu issues message.

Barcelona are interested in bringing Pep Guardiola back to Camp Nou amid rumours that the manager will leave Manchester City at the end of this season.

More from Everything Barca

Club President Josep Bartomeu has clearly stated that Pep Guardiola is always welcomed back to the club if he so chooses. Pep is in his fourth year at Etihad and has recently publically criticized his squad after their 2-1 defeat to local rivals Manchester United on Saturday.

"“[Manchester] United have the quality to defend and the quality to attack on the counter-attack and you have to accept that, That is the level we face against Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus. They are the teams we have to face and the reality is maybe we are not able now to compete with them.” Pep said, Source BBC"

He has also stated that he is no longer thinking of winning the European Cup, the only trophy he has yet to achieve with the Premier League side,

"“We are not thinking of winning the Champions League, I am not thinking about how many points we need or how many points they have to drop. We are trying to win games, to win the next one.” Guadiola continued"

The Spanish coach led his Barca squad to legendary status while integrating the club’s famous tiki-taka style of play that saw the club gain tremendous success. The former Bayern coach enjoyed 4 seasons at the Nou Camp and recent reports claim that the two sides may soon reunite.

President Bartomeu in a recent interview with La Repubblica, publically stated that Guardiola is always welcomed back and that the decision depends on the Coach’s own desires,

"“It doesn’t depend on me. It was Pep who decided to leave, but the door will always be open for him at Barca.”"

Currently, Blaugrana are managed by Ernesto Valverde with whom the club have experienced two disastrous exits from the Champions League. Thus, the return of the most successful manager in the club’s history will surely bring some excitement among the fans. With the Spanish coach’s current City contract expiring in 2021, this dream move may soon become a reality.

Manchester City are in the third spot in the Premier League table, 14 points behind leaders, Liverpool and with Pep claiming it is unlikely that Man City will win the Champions League this season, it might not be a surprise to see the 48-year-old leave Etihad this season as it was him who claimed that his stay with City would depend on the results.

"“I’m so comfortable working with this club, and when you are [somewhere for] five years it depends on the results. We will see what happens this season,” he said back in November. Express"
