Barcelona teenager Marcus McGuane is in talks with several English sides in order to secure a January transfer to return to his native country.

Formerly an Arsenal academy player at the age of six, McGuane spent 12 years in London before signing for Barcelona B in 2018. Marcus struggled to make a lasting impression after 24 appearances resulting in his loan move to second-tier Netherland side,  Telstar.

After playing for the Dutch club for 16 matches, the midfielder’s future for the remainder of the season is uncertain with The Sun reporting that the player has traveled to his homeland to hold talks in order to secure a January move, making him miss Telstar’s next fixture against FC Eindhoven on the 10th of this month.

The move is to be finalized by Monday and failing to do so will simply result in the teenager returning to complete his loan spell. The 20-year-old has a contract with the Spanish Champions until the summer of 2021, but the Arsenal academy product wants a move much sooner.

The Dutch side’s manager, Andries Jonker, spoke about Marcus’s future,

"“Marcus has developed extremely well with us in recent weeks, and that has earned him the interest of a number of major English clubs. We have therefore given Marcus the opportunity to talk to these clubs until Monday. If this does not work, Marcus will simply report to the White Lions again.”"

The defensive midfielder was initially appearing for the Republic of Ireland’s U17 side before making a switch to England in 2016. The English international made his Barca debut in the Supercopa de Catalunya when he replaced Aleix Vidal to become the first English player since Gary Lineker to represent the Catalan giants.

Blaugrana have an important decision to make as former Barca B coach Gerard Lopez believed McGuane to be a complete footballer who has the potential to become a valuable asset for the club,

"“McGuane is a complete player. He’s a hard worker, good in the air, arrives in the box from deep. At his age, he still has a lot of room for improvement and I hope he can become an important player for us.”Source The Sun"

The decision will be finalized by Monday with Marcus looking to play in a more competitive league with the experience he gained during his time with Barcelona.
