Lionel Messi has urged Barcelona into making the massive signing of a Manchester City superstar to boost their Champions League chances.

Barcelona manager Quique Setien has a big task on his hands, and that is get his side to consistency and try to compete for three trophies during the remainder of the season. The UEFA Champions League continues to of absolute focus for the Catalans, but they will need to manoeuvre through the knockout phases without lethal scorer Luis Suarez.

More from Everything Barca

Luis Suarez picked up an injury in the Super Cup semi-final versus Atletico Madrid, in what was Ernesto Valverde’s last match in the dugout and has now been ruled out for as many as four months. In all probability, the Uruguayan will be back only for the Copa America later this year and feature for the Blaugrana in the 2020/21 campaign.

Whether the former Liverpool ace will be a first-choice striker for the next season remains to be seen because Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has been tipped to make a move to the Camp Nou during the summer and will be Luis Suarez’s successor at the club. With that said, Antoine Griezmann will need to adapt to a left winger’s role with Ousmane Dembele staring down the exit door.

Diario GOL has reported that Lionel Messi has asked the club’s board to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero during the summer. Aguero has become the Premier League’s all-time top scorer from amongst foreigner players and also has struck most hat-tricks, overtaking Alan Shearer’s record of 11 last weekend against Aston Villa.

Sergio Aguero will slowly start to be phased out by the Citizens as Gabriel Jesus gets inducted into the regular side and having won all trophies in England, the Argentinian striker may be open to moving to Barcelona even at 32 years of age in order to give it a go at winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in his career at almost its end.

Messi’s request has seemingly been turned down by the Barca board which does not see Sergio Aguero as an attractive option due to his age and will prioritise on the signing of Lautaro Martinez for the summer. The Inter Milan striker is enjoying a blockbuster striker in the Serie A and is almost certainly going to be a Blaugrana at the end of this season.

Do you think Sergio Aguero would be a good addition to Barca despite his age?
