Samuel Umtiti, like Ivan Rakitic, has fallen down the pecking order at the club and was severely out of favour in the past few months with Valverde at the helm.

As per express.co.uk, Mourinho is looking to snap up Samuel Umtiti who apparently being offered by the club. Umiti has only made 4 La Liga starts this season and it may or may not change, now that Quique Seiten has replaced Valverde.

Umtiti hasn’t had the best year and a half in recent times owing to his run of injuries and inconsistency on the pitch due to lack of enough game time. Hence it is quite natural that Barcelona are looking to let go of him unless they have something specific for him in their mind. However, by the looks of it, Samuel doesn’t seem to have any role to play in the club currently.

Tottenham are in need of an established defender as Jan Vertonghen is all set to walk away as a free agent this summer leaving a vacancy at the center-back position. Moreover, Umtiti seems to have impressed Jose and that could help his cause.

Mourinho looks keen on sizing up the opportunity to land the quality defender in Umtiti and it can well be a win for Barcelona as well as they could go ahead and try to land Vertonghen once he walks out of Tottenham as a free agent. Jan would prove to be a suitable player at the back of the field for the Blaugranes which does seem to be lacking in experience currently.

Barcelona should proceed with the sale of the French International as he hasn’t been at his best in the past couple of years. His injury woes and inconsistency seem to be never ending and him leaving the club is the best option available for both the parties involved. Moreover, Barcelona are in need of some funds as they have some big purchases to make in the coming months.
