Barcelona attempted to reunite with former captain and club legend, Andres Iniesta, on a loan deal to solve their attacking issues.

AS confirmed from people close to Andres Iniesta that Barcelona had planned to re-sign their club legend during the January transfer window. The Spaniard has two years remaining in his current contract with the Japan side, Vissel Kobe.

More from Everything Barca

Andres recently celebrated winning the Japanese Super Cup with Vissel Kobe, making his total trophies earned to 37, which is second to former Barca teammate Dani Alves, who has 40 titles of his own. One of the best midfielders to ever play for the Catalan side, Iniesta at the age of 35 is still performing at the highest standards.

Blaugrana contacted the player to discuss the possibility of a return to the Nou Camp, a short-term loan deal to solve the club’s current issues, which was rejected by Vissel. Iniesta captains the Japanese side, a star player leading the squad into the Asian Champions League starting on the 10th of February.

Iniesta would have surely guided the current Barca squad to their former playing style of Total Football while helping the new coach, Quique Setien, bring back the philosophy that used to define the club.

Setien is a huge fan of the Spaniard and once revealed in an interview with Barca TV that he would want Iniesta to be the Legend added to his current squad, “Iniesta, although he hasn’t retired.. maybe we could still bring him back!”.

Iniesta is currently enjoying his time in Japan, aspiring to make history with his Vissel side, and wants to honour his current contract. He may join teammate Xavi Hernandez as a football coach after this spell in Kobe.
