Barcelona plans on signing the 2018 Golden Boy nominee from RB Leipzig in the upcoming summer transfer market, who’s also wanted by Arsenal and Bayern.

RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old French star Dayot Upamecano is probably the world’s best young centre-back right now. In short, the young Frenchman is quick on his feet, well built and is extremely comfortable with the ball to start attacks or play the ball out and is now wanted by a host of European royalty including Barcelona.

Dayot Upamecano stands six feet tall and weighs in around 198 lbs, which makes him quite a solid rock at the back. Although his stature and built is not of a pacey centre-back, the French defender can clock in a top speed of 34.5km/hr. His incredible stats and performances in the Bundesliga have helped him gain attention amongst the big European clubs in the world.

Premier League giants Arsenal has been one of the clubs that have kept a close watch on this growing young french prodigy. The Gunners are in a desperate situation as their defence has been torn apart by most premier league clubs. So far in the league, the Gunners have conceded more goals (34) than goals scored (32).

Newly appointed manager Mikel Arteta believes that the signing of Dayot Upamecano could help him bolster Arsenal’s weak defence over the summer. Unfortunately, Arsenal is no longer in the race to sign the french prodigy as Barcelona and Bayern Munich are now interested in Dayot Upamecano, according to The Express.

With 15 matches remaining in the league, Barcelona has already conceded 28 goals when compared to their last season championship where they ended the season with only 36 goals against them. The Blaugrana could do with a new young centre-back for the next season.

The 2018 Golden Boy Award nominee was signed by RB Leipzig for a reported fee of 10 million euros. The young French prodigy signed a four and a half year contract which runs out in 2021. With the growing tension amongst the top clubs in Europe to sign the player, RB Leipzig would bank on the opportunity to sell Dayot Upamecano in the summer rather than losing the player for free when his contract runs out.

RB Leipzig believes that a figure around 50 million pounds or so would be suitable for the French defender.
