Real Madrid will hope to potion their squad with a player who has had past associations with their arch rivals- Barcelona.

Real Madrid are playing a pretty good brand of football and have lost just once in their last 24 outings, though that was a costly Copa del Rey elimination at the hands of Real Sociedad. The Whites’ defence is rock-solid but their goal-scoring issues haven’t been answered completely, despite many players firing them throughout the season.

More from Everything Barca

Karim Benzema is the Merengues’ top-scorer after an explosive start to the campaign, but the Frenchman has slowed down lately and has shown signs of the inevitable ageing. On the other hand, Luka Jovic has also failed to capitalize on his chances. The Serbian has struck just twice but to be fair towards him, he’s had a very low number of opportunities.

Diario GOL has reported that the Whites could go in and sign Inter Milan’s striker Mauro Icardi, who is enjoying a productive loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain. If the European giants go for the Argentinian’s services, then the forward may leave for Spain instead of signing with the Parisians due to his supposed hatred towards Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

Mauro Icardi was a product of the La Masia academy, but was deemed to be under expectations to play for the senior Barcelona team. Plus, the Inter Milan man has always been on bad terms with Lionel Messi, who is a major force with the Argentina national team and an even bigger fixture with Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane’s side has always been interested in bringing Icardi in, especially because of his incredible ball movement but the player already seems to have been a permanent signing for Paris Saint-Germain, especially with Edinson Cavani looking likely to leave in the summer and Icardi being promised a starter’s role for the upcoming seasons.

While Icardi is an incredible player, the Whites would be better off giving chances to Luka Jovic who they signed for 65 million euros and then later going in to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe is much younger and will become a more potent goal-scorer than Icardi to fulfil Real Madrid’s needs for a longer time.
