The reason behind why Barcelona did not sign Erling Haaland
Barcelona’s board ruled out the potential transfer of Erling Haaland because of the strained relationship the board shares with his agent.
As Dortmund’s Erling Haaland continues to dazzle the world after scoring a brace against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
Barcelona still continues their hunt for a striker after losing out Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez to long term injuries, leaving the Cules with only 18 first-team players to train.

During the winter transfer window, there was speculation about Barcelona signing a replacement for Luis Suarez. The Blaugrana have considered Inter Milan’s Argentine striker to be the perfect replacement for the veteran number 9 of Barcelona.
However, Inter Milan has set a release clause worth 111 million euros which is a lot of money for a player with no history.
The Blaugrana could have signed the European sensation Erling Haaland, but the Cules president Josep Maria Bartomeu was completely against the idea of signing the 19year old sensation, according to Eldesmarque.
Borussia Dortmund paid a reported fee of around 20 million euros to sign RB Salzburg’s to secure the move, however, that was not the only amount that the Dortmund had to pay RB Salzburg.
Erling Haaland’s agent is none other than the world-renowned Mino Raiola. Haaland’s agent charged Borussia Dortmund a sum of 15 million euros as a premium to sign the 19-year-old striker and Alf-Inge Haaland, a former footballer who is the father of Erling, received a sum worth 10 million euros for the move of Erling from the Red Bull Arena to Signal Iduna Park, according to El Desmarque.
In addition to all the undisclosed fee’s that were made for Haaland’s move, the former RB Salzburg striker will also pull in a sum of 8 million euros a year as salary from Borussia Dortmund. Adding all the extra figures along with the Norweigian strikers’ salary, the figures are astronomical and no club would want to pay the same, including Barca.
Another reason as to why Barcelona did not sign the European sensation was because of the strained relationship that the Blaugrana board share with the Mino Raiola.
The relationship was hampered after Mino Raiola’s client Matthijs de Ligt opted to move to Turin rather than playing at Camp Nou. Barcelona was not far away from signing the Dutch captain before Mino Raiola decided to pull the plug, as reported by El Desmarque.
Mino Raiola pulled off another business mind trick by making it difficult for Dortmund to keep Erling Haaland for the future, as one of his conditions of the contract states that his termination clause on June 2021 would be 75 million euros, as claimed by El Desmarque. 75 million is a lot of money but when it is compared to the inflation in today’s market, especially for a number 9 that is so clinical, Haaland will be sold for a song in the market.
Should Barcelona try signing Erling Haaland in the summer of 2021-22? or should they go for Lautaro Martinez?
