Barcelona are currently in a poor state and former boss Pep Guardiola is looking to capitalize by signing a star man from the Catalans.

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has been under the scanner at the Camp Nou since a few months now and everything points towards his departure. The Frenchman was once tipped to become a successor to Carles Puyol, but in a turn of events, he had major injuries and has been limited to be a fringe player following the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

More from Everything Barca

Umtiti certainly has a lot of quality, but unfortunately in a Barca side that is going down by the day, he has not had too many chances but that is mostly due to Clement Lenglet taking his position and being incredibly good beside Gerard Pique. Arsenal were thought to be interested in Umtiti’s signing, but nothing materialized of their monitoring.

El Desmarque has now reported that Pep Guardiola is keen on bringing the central defender to Manchester City. The Citizens have struggled at the back and conceded a big number of goals by their standard after failing to replace Vincent Kompany, who left the club last summer. A centre back is someone that Pep needs to sign.

Samuel Umtiti is going to be transfer listed by Quique Setien and Manchester City promises to be a brilliant destination for a player who still has a long career ahead of him. The Frenchman is after all a World Cup winner, and the defending Premier League champions will be able to land a player who promises to be world-class given chances.

Manchester City’s only catch in their pursuit of any player now on is that they are staring at a two year ban in the UEFA Champions League. Not only will that put the potential newcomers off, but even the current names in the squad are being pipped to leave despite their not being much interest for Man City’s players from other European sides.

Do you think Manchester City will be able to land their target from Barca?
