Frenkie de Jong clashes with Lionel Messi after he calls out the Barcelona starting eleven as a squad filled with players who are in their late thirties.
With Lionel Messi falling out with Barcelona abroad after expressing his dissent towards the board on his Instagram story where he called out Barcelona’s director Eric Abidal for his recent comments. To add to the list of mayhem at the Barcelona, Frenkie de jong made a statement that was not taken very well by most teammates, especially Lionel Messi.

The Dutch midfielder signed for the Blaugrana this season for around 75 million euros and is certainly an important star player at the Catalan club now and for the near future.
The Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu made an effort by reducing the tension in the Barca dressing room by meeting the captains of the club and the staff to seek their advice and give his explanations, according to Don Balon.
Frenkie de Jong said that he was surprised to see that the team is an aging one with many of the starting eleven players who are in their thirties, according to Don Balon.
De Jong’s comment was taken negatively by the players at the club as a direct insult to Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Arturo Vidal, as they are the older players in the squad. The club stars did not take the youngster’s comment well and our upset at Frenkie de Jong.
However, Lionel Messi was the one who was the most upset by the comment, as he believes that the older heavyweights of the club still have a lot to offer for the success of the club.
Unfortunately, this season’s performance has not been in favour towards the older players at the club, like Vidal, Busquets, Pique, Suarez, Jordi Alba have underperformed in a few games and have gone missing as well in certain games.
The essence of tranquility has been lost in Barca after the past few controversial weeks. The generation gap at the Camp Nou must be supported, otherwise, it may cause an issue for the younger generation to adapt to the club and the older experienced players to find stability at the club.
The Blaugrana board is well aware that Frenkie de Jong and Lionel Messi are crucial players for the club and that they should put their differences aside.
