When Lionel Messi will end his association with Barcelona remains to be seen, but recent suggestions are that it may well happen after this season ends.

Barcelona are leading La Liga and face Napoli in the round of 16 of the Champions League, but the things inside the club are not looking as merry as they look from the outside. For time first time in a while, the Blaugrana fired a coach midway through the season, with Ernesto Valverde falling prey and Quique Setien being a subsequent replacement.

Following the former Real Betis manager’s appointment, the club’s captain Lionel Messi had a public fallout with the sporting director Eric Abidal, who claimed that Barca were forced into sacking Valverde as the players didn’t work hard enough under him. To this, Messi responded via what can practically be called a rant on his Instagram story.

With that said, Messi has been thought to contemplate the possibility of leaving the Camp Nou at the end of this season and will be allowed to leave for free at the end of each season as per his contractual terms. Express has reported that MLS giants LA Galaxy have offered a deal to the Argentina international, asking him to join by the end of this season.

LA Galaxy are arguably the biggest franchise in the first division of the United States and Canada, recently having appointed the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic a platform to follow upon from their European experiences. Messi would certainly benefit from it, but he might as well stay in Europe as he has a lot to play even at 32.

Messi apparently also has offers to join Manchester City and Juventus, but both look very unlikely destinations for their own respective reasons. The Citizens have been banned for two years in the Champions League, so there’s no chance Messi plays outside Europe for a while, whereas Juventus already have Cristiano Ronaldo so there may be a clash of egos.
