Barcelona are looking to replace Gerard Pique who is reaching the final stages of an illustrious career with one of Jose Mourinho’s sporadic men.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho lost a bit more ground on his side’s quest for a Champions League finish following a 3-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. While it was a result that was not very shocking given the winning team’s recent displays, Jose certainly has to dish out some players who are seemingly deadweight to the club.

More from Everything Barca

Davinson Sanchez was one of the worst performers of the match and failed to take his man for two of the three goals that his side conceded. What’s bad is that he is a player of great quality, but lacks the playing time that he deserves and would like given that Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are indispensable players at the club.

Sanchez is reportedly looking to leave the club this summer given his young age and quest for more playing time, and it is thought that Barcelona will be in the running to land him into the Camp Nou, Don Balon claims. The Catalans are in need of a central defender and the Colombian centre-back could be a good fill to their roster.

Barcelona are expected to part company with Samuel Umtiti in the summer. The France international has struggled for minutes following constant fitness issues, and when handed the playing time, Umtiti has let down- with the Real Madrid fixture being the prime example of it. Pique and Lenglet are the first-choice defenders at the club, but a back-up is needed.

Gerard Pique is ageing and Barca have looked at some expensive replacements for him, but if Davinson Sanchez can settle into the Camp Nou well, he would be a reasonably priced successor to the Barca stalwart. Moreover, he will have a reasonable number of chances in Catalonia as there is a lot more squad rotation in Barca than in north London.
