The Barcelona midfield finally seemed to be taking shape with Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Arthur Melo.

With the Brazilian’s injury, someone else will need to take his place. Arturo Vidal started the last match but that had more to do with the 4-4-2 formation that the club were utilizing that worked despite the loss.

As mentioned, Riqui Puig was called-up for the match but given the pressure the manager is under, he is unlikely to start him. Puig would be an ideal choice given his familiarity with the style of play and because he has the stamina to run up-and-down the pitch.

That stamina is going to be important since the last time these two sides met up, Martin Ødegaard ran circles through the midfield. Especially down the middle. One could easily assume that the same tactic will be utilized once again.

Assuming they go back to a 4-3-3-, the Chilean will likely be the third midfielder. At this point, Ivan Rakitic is an afterthought and will have to get used to his role on the bench and as a second-half substitute.
